Conference Grants

    Guidelines for Grants

Members of SHRM who have designated Skagit-Island Human Resource Management Association as their affiliated chapter are eligible to apply for grant money to be used to attend conferences which benefit the chapter and membership at large. Grants are awarded by the Board of Directors. Awards for grants are made at the discretion of the board, based on the availability of funds and the merit of the request.

The conferences available for grant approval:

    • State or Local Diversity Conferences of SHRM Affiliates.
    • HRCI Approved Training: Conferences and Workshops, as scheduled.
    • WA State Annual Employment Law and Legislative Conference, as scheduled in Bellevue, WA.
    • SHRM Annual National Conference & Exposition
    • NHRMA Conference

More information about these conferences can be found online at SHRM.org

The following guidelines have been established for the proper administration of the grant program:

    • Members are allowed to apply for the grant dollars as many times as they want, but no one individual shall receive more than $500 every two years. Consideration will be given first to those individuals who have never received grant dollars.
    • Members may request grant money to cover the cost of conference attendance fees. Travel expense and other types of expenses incidental to the training will not be eligible for reimbursement.
    • Expenses eligible for reimbursement by your employer are not eligible for grant dollars.
    • The grant will be awarded in the form of a check made out to the sponsoring organization. If member has already paid the fee, reimbursement will be made only after receiving proof of payment.
    • We encourage the recipient of the grant dollars to share the key learning from their education and/or training with the Skagit-Island Human Resource Management Association through written or oral media.

The deadline for application is 60 days prior to the registration deadline of the event.
